Potential Influences on Threat Perception:

I think that I will just build this list until I can see groupings begin to emerge, at which point I can simplify this into group headings.

bulletGeography - an obvious one.  If you live on an island, your perception of say a maritime threat will be vastly different than if you live in a land locked region or a large continent.
bulletResources - Self sustaining or obliged to import essentials?
bulletWeather - Temperature or precipitation extremes can also determine, to some extent, whether the capacity to be self sustaining is robust or fragile.
bulletLanguage - what if you don't have the vocabulary in a language for certain types of expression?  The Inuit have multiple words for snow, but what about a Bushman?
bulletGender relations - Matriarchal, patriarchal or equal partners?  (I know there must be a clever word for that third one)
bulletSocial organization - family, community, government structure.
bulletEducation - Form or structure, and content - Literacy levels, oral tradition, legends and myths as lessons, technical training, liberal arts, accessibility?
bulletIndustry and Technology - Home grown or imported?  Current or outmoded?  Comprehensive or component specialized.
bulletPolitics - Centralized, decentralized, democratic, autocratic, oligarchic, theocratic, tribal . . .
bullet Religion
bulletCultural archetypes and heroes - What is held up in myth and entertainment as the ideal person, male, female?  What attributes seem to hold the greatest value?  Physical strength? Cunning? Wisdom? Reproductive capacity? Size?

bullet Legal Systems - as borrowed from Wikepedia

bullet2 Common law
bullet3 Customary law
